I’m a bit of a nerd for 20th-century history, and a key figure from that era is a personal leadership hero for me, Sir Winston Churchill. In his book Churchill a Life, which is a great read, author Martin Gilbert notes that Churchill had an amazing gift for unrehearsed eloquence. His famous quote, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few,” was an off-the-cuff word of profound gratitude for the young pilots of the Royal Air Force.
